Camp America is the most established company in the industry and they pride themselves on their international summer camp fairs. They are also the J-1 Visa designated sponsor which means that if you have any problems they will help you out with ease.
They have good support so that if you have a problem they could help you out.
The fees with Camp America are £587* but that does include flights from London to New York.
A small break down of their salaries shows that they pay (minimum):
Counsellor – $600 – $850
Advanced Skills – $700 – $950 (this is if you have a lifeguard or swim instructor qualification
Counsellor – $700 – $950
Campower/Support Staff – $1200

Each summer they send approximately 7000 young people to camp – considerably more than any other summer camp provider
· As a designated sponsor their applicants are supported by UK and US offices 24 hours per day
· Applicants flying into New York get 1 nights stay at their arrivals hotel at The Ramada Hotel
· As part of the £587 programme fee, they fly applicants as close to their camp as possible for no additional cost – so not everyone flies into New York
· Their insurance cover is extremely comprehensive and protects applicants for 153 days up a maximum of $500,000
· Camp America participants receive a 15% discount with Camp America Treks, run by Intrepid Travel
Extra Costs
With all of the companies there are going to be some extra costs involved because there is no other way around it, you will find below some examples of the extra cost:
J-1 Visa Costs = Around £140
Criminal Record Check = Around £45
Health History Form from Doctor = Dependent on your doctor
Travel to US Embassy (London, Belfast, Dublin) = Depends on where you live
