Clear up your social media!

You can bet your bottom dollar that in todays society, the majority of us are involved in social media in some way, shape or form. We laugh at photos of friends, running round naked in a lake or doing the harlem shake (Which we all know will eventually die out). But if you are applying for a job, it is a slight possibility that the company may look at your social media pages to gain an idea of what you are like. This also applies to working at a summer camp. Remember, you are going to be working with children between the ages of 6 to 16 and it is likely camps will be put off if you appear intoxicated in every picture, or if your profile picture is of you with a nice pint of stella. Here are some tips into turning your messy social media page into a nice clean one with a green tree to freshen it up.

  • Make sure your privacy settings are as high as they’ll go. This way people will not be able to see your photos or wall posts without being your friend.
  • Have a nice, smiling profile picture, rather then the one of you drinking jagerbombs till you start to p... (We will leave that one there)
  • Check your Twitter profile and make sure the tweets are set to PG or U this way you can't tweet any explicit messages.
  • Before accepting new camp friends think about the fact that your new employer, the kids or their parents may try and find you online before, during and after camp. Adjust what they can see accordingly. Some camps may even ask you to friend their camp page on Facebook. If they do, don't panic! Just make sure everythings suitable. It is also possible to adjust your privacy settings for each individual friend.
  • Go through your Facebook timeline with a magnifying glass and delete anything that you think is offensive (And not your style of offensive, anything that makes you look bad to the public).
  • Also google yourself to check what comes up: make sure you check the image section too! But don't google yourself in front of everyone, it makes you look like a right obsessive freak! Trust me, I have done that before.

And there you go, your social media pages look good as new. Treat this as a media CRB check. Anything offensive and you will be kicked out the door!

If you are still a bit worried about your social media pages then just email us and we will do a social check for you! It like a social MOT (but we do it for free).
