So, you need to book flights?

"Come fly with me, lets fly, lets fly away"...Okay, enough singing, but if have applied to camp through a company that doesn't book your flights, it might seem like a nightmare, but it really needn't be. Who do I book my flights with? Which airline should I choose? How do I know when I am going to come back? Calm down. We hope this section sheds some light on the topic, so please place your tray tables in the up-right position, sit back and relax.

Firstly, you need to speak with your camp director to make sure you know what dates you will need to arrive and at which airport. If your lucky, your camp will pick you up from the airport. Easy peasy. If not, they will provide you with instructions of how to get to camp once you have landed on US soil. Most camps will then reimburse you for your travel but it is a good idea to find out if they have a limit on this. Also find out what day you will finally be free to run wild around America...

Once you have your dates confirmed, you can run like a headless chicken and look at booking flights. Some companies will suggest you wait to book your fights till you have received your visa from the embassy. This is entirely up to you. It can sometimes be the case that the sooner your book your flights, the cheaper they will be. However, some airline prices will continue to fluctuate until just before. But book early just to be on the safe side.

There are a number of options in looking for your best flight price. One good example would be to check SkyScanner. They compare tons of different airline companies to give you the best value for money. Use the SkyScanner app below to get going.

Another option is to take a trip into STA travel or Flight centre. Both places have great discounts on flights including BA and VA. Before you go, check sky scanner to see what the cheapest option is. They will often price match or even beat what you find online. Every little helps!

The biggest problem most people will find with booking flights is "how do I know what my return date is?" Remember, you have up to 30 days to travel after you have finished working at your camp.
Picking an exact return date can be hard as you'll make tons of new friends at camp so your plans are likely to change. If you do need to change the date of your return flight with the airline company, this could cost you an arm and a leg. But STA travel have come up with a great solution to that problem...

STA Multi-Flex is a way of changing the date of your return flight with only paying a one-off fee. WHAT!?! Yes, with multi-flex, if you decide that you have had enough of the USA (although we predict that this will be highly unlikely), or you feel that you need a bit more time working on that sun tan, then this is a great service. You pay a one off fee and you could have either up to 3 date changes or unlimited changes. Please bear in mind that if the flight you are changing to is more expensive than the original, you will be responsible for paying the extra. For more info about the multi-flex ticket click here or go into your nearest STA travel. Terms and conditions apply.

So there you go. You will be jet-setting in no time! Shall we carry on with that song!
