About Gemma...

Hello!

My name is Gemma; I'm 21 and am currently in my final year of university at Winchester. I'm studying English (Literature, Language and the occasional creative writing!) and it has been an amazing three years!
In my second year of uni I spent a semester in Japan teaching Junior high school children English, and travelled half the country while I was there, and it was possibly the best experience of my life so far!
It was definitely after those 4 months, that I got the travelling bug! This led me to CCUSA and getting placed at Camp Matoaka in Maine, where I’ll be a Photography counselor. (This may seem a bit random, so I’ll explain!) My dad is a professional wedding photographer and I’ve always loved it, and have helped him out at weddings on a few occasions; however I never felt the need to do courses in it, as my dad taught me everything I know! So I’ll be helping the kids learn how to use film cameras and digital, and I’m sure they will all be thoroughly intrigued when they have to develop their pictures before they can see them!



Other than Literature and photography, I love drama and dance. I went to a performing arts school as well as a dance and drama school in my spare time, where I spent 15 years doing: Tap, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, (and for a shorter time) Ballroom as well as doing my L.A.M.D.A exams which I am proud to say I have now gained my gold medal in. Our school often put on shows at our local theatre, which, other than some awful costumes, were always fun!

I hope to bring all my skills and experience to camp with me, so the campers will have an amazing summer! And I hope my blog will keep you entertained and (hopefully) give you some insight into life at camp!
